The Texas Southern University Women’s Track and Field team made a strong statement at the 73rd annual TSU Relays this past weekend, showing both speed and heart in front of a proud home crowd.
Feshman sprinter Car’De Moore led the way, claiming first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.03 seconds — an impressive debut for her first outdoor collegiate season.
Car'De Moore Makes Her Collegiate Mark
“To say this is my first outdoor collegiate season, just as a freshman, it was impressive,” Moore said. “When I had my first high school meet, I didn’t open up with a 12.01, and the headwind was heavy. So, for me to open up with a 12.03 — I was quite impressed.”
Erica Grant Highlights Growth & Teamwork
Moore wasn’t the only standout. Sophomore Erica Grant also left her mark on the track, finishing second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.28 seconds and competing alongside her teammates in the 4x100-meter relay.
“It felt really good,” Grant shared. “Especially because the time we opened up with was actually a lot faster than what we did last year. With Coach Duncan’s coaching and Coach Bonds’ help, we’ve progressed a lot this season.”
Bayli George Leads with Motivation & Heart
Junior Bayli George emphasized the importance of team support and staying motivated — especially with the team adapting to new competition within the SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference).
“I make sure they stay motivated. Sometimes when they’re feeling tired or drowsy, I check up on them and let them know we’ve got this,” said George. “They helped me a lot too — it was my first time running the 4x1. We help each other a lot.”
With this momentum, the Lady Tigers are now preparing to compete at Rice University this Thursday. Ready to keep building on their season’s success.
