Reflections on growth, mentorship, and storytelling at the intersection of tech, media, and advocacy

This past summer was nothing short of transformative. I had the privilege of interning with DivInc’s 2025 Next Gen Startup Program and Cache AI, two spaces dedicated to driving change, building community, and amplifying underrepresented voices in tech and media. What made this journey even more special was being part of an all Black cohort of 21 ambitious changemakers, each bringing their own unique story, passion, and vision for the future.

From the very first day, it was clear this experience would be more than just an internship. It was an opportunity to grow, to create, and to be inspired by those around me.

Innovation Meets Community

The Next Gen Startup Program was more than workshops and networking sessions. It was a deep dive into what it means to be a leader in innovation. Every meeting and every conversation sparked ideas about how to build something bigger than yourself. Surrounded by peers who looked like me and shared similar dreams, I felt affirmed in ways I had not before.

At Cache AI, I contributed to content strategy and digital storytelling, focusing on how technology can elevate athletes and brands. It was a space where creativity met purpose, and every project reminded me of the power of combining tech and media to tell stories that matter.

Advocacy in Action

What stood out most during my time with DivInc and Cache AI was their commitment to advocacy. Whether it was providing corporate exposure for founders, creating opportunities for collaboration, or pushing the conversation on diversity in tech, both organizations made it clear that representation is not optional. It is essential.

As someone passionate about storytelling, I was reminded daily that the narratives we create and share hold the power to shift culture. Being part of spaces that center Black excellence showed me what true inclusion looks like in practice.

Personal Growth and Lasting Impact

Beyond the work, this internship shaped me personally. I learned how to sharpen my voice, embrace my creativity, and show up as both a professional and a leader. The mentorship I received and the relationships I built will stay with me long after the program.

Most importantly, I left the summer more confident in my place at the intersection of tech, sports, and media. This experience affirmed my purpose, which is to create and advocate for spaces where stories are told authentically and communities thrive.

Looking Ahead

This summer was a milestone, but it is only the beginning. I am grateful to DivInc, the NBA Foundation, Cache AI, and every mentor and peer who poured into me. You reminded me why this work matters and why our stories must continue to be amplified.

To every young Black creative and innovator, know this: there is a place for you in tech, in media, and beyond. This is only the start of what is possible.

Until next time, keep building, keep creating, and keep telling your story.
