Making History in San Antonio: Celebrating HBCU Excellence and the First-Ever Women’s All-Star Game
A Weekend of History, Hoops, and HBCU Pride
This past weekend in San Antonio was nothing short of unforgettable. I had the honor of attending the 2025 HBCU All-Star Weekend, an event that continues to grow in energy, excellence, and impact. But this year marked something truly historic: the debut of the first-ever Women’s HBCU All-Star Game.
To witness that kind of history unfold in real-time was powerful. As someone deeply committed to sports media and passionate about uplifting underrepresented voices, especially Black women in sports, being present for that moment meant the world to me. It wasn’t just a game—it was a statement. A celebration. A new beginning.
Women on Center Stage
From tip-off to the final buzzer, the women’s game delivered. Talent, grit, and passion were on full display, as some of the best women athletes from HBCUs across the country showcased their skills on a national stage. The energy in the arena was electric. You could feel the pride radiating from the players, the fans, and everyone involved in bringing this vision to life.
Representation matters. And this moment proved that when we create space for Black women to shine, they will rise and deliver in ways that shift the culture.
Beyond the Game
The weekend wasn’t just about basketball. It was a celebration of HBCU legacy, culture, and community. From the fan experiences to community engagement events and media connections, San Antonio was buzzing with purpose and pride. It was inspiring to see students, alumni, and supporters all come together to honor our schools and athletes.
As a media professional, I left the weekend feeling even more motivated to keep telling these stories—stories that deserve to be seen, heard, and felt. The HBCU All-Star Weekend reminded me why I do what I do. Why creating space for our voices in sports and media matters.
Looking Ahead
This weekend was a milestone, but it’s only the beginning. I’m proud to have been in the building, capturing moments, connecting with fellow changemakers, and witnessing Black excellence in every form.
To every athlete, organizer, and supporter who made the weekend possible, thank you. Your work doesn’t go unnoticed.
And to every young Black woman dreaming of breaking into sports—this moment is for you, and there’s more to come.
Until next time, stay inspired and stay in the game!
